When is best to release a book

There are no hard and fast rules as to when is best to release a book, but as per several sites, it’s best to publish a book as part of an event or occasion when you can promote it and according to several sources the recommended times are:

January – April: Romance, Self-help, Business books, Cookery
May-August: Adventure, Fantasy, Travel
Sept – Nov: Academic, Horror, Paranormal
Dec – Jan: Children, Cookery, Illustrated, Quiz, Dictionaries and quirky fun books.
A series is best to release between August and September.

I, as an anxious first-time author, wanted to publish my first book when it was ready; despite Amazon's recommendations that October is a terrible time to publish first-time books and the best time for Fantasy/Paranormal is in May.

Still, I have high reviews on Amazon but also complaints that the book is too short and I agree. However, The Sylph's Tale had to come out a fist and alone. It is the only book in the series that takes place in prehistory. It introduces the angel and the virgin, and even though the angel is damned for eternity, he starts to discover that their love was part of a higher plan. Also, I wanted to make it a Teleplay before publishing book two, Virgins and book three ROLO.
Completed the Teleplay, alternate title–Ayekah the Damned. It’s getting looked at by my favorite reader (a ruthless critic) my husband John before I make final edits.

2017 ScreenCraft Short Story Contest Quarter-Finalists Announced - ScreenCraft: Listed below are the quarter-finalists of the 2017 ScreenCraft Short Story Contest, selected from over 1,400 submissions. Congratulations to these writers and thanks to all for submitting!  Stay tuned for the February...

Happy Valentines Day!

My husband, John and I will go to an early dinner and a movie. Told him I wanted him to choose the movie and restaurant - "because you are my backbone, you edit my books before they go out to other readers for comments." He looked at me and said, "you know why I want to do something you want to do?" I said, "tell me." He said, "because you are my love" That's enough for a Valentine as far I'm concerned.

I remember after my first husband passed away, he was still young, from a massive heart attack when having a pizza or making a special dinner for my children was my celebration of love. It matters not in time and space; holidays are created by the "buy this" or "do that" industry.

I would like to say my book, The Sylph's Tale is a perfect Valentine read. A magical tale of discovery and love and even though it's small, it has excellent reviews on Amazon.

By the way, if you love to read and would like to check out my books before publication and give me suggestions, please let me know on a comment at the bottom of this post.

Also, Book Two - Virgins - will be out May 2018.

ABOUT MOLESTATION OR RAPE AND SUICIDE

After reading Loren Kleinman's article: Virginia Woolf and the Language of Trauma, I explored the possibility of opening the door to my monsters.

File:Virginia Woolf 1927.jpgKleinman writes "Once I went on this journey with Woolf I could not return. I was her companion; bringing forth the notion that no one should have to go through such pain alone. She spoke. I listened." Adds, "Woolf's recording; I explored my own trauma memory. It is often hard for me to separate myself from the research, and even harder to write about personal trauma." After disclosing her rape incident, she continues, "Like many survivors of sexual violence, including rape, molestation, and assault, the silence was a way of life. How could I get someone to listen? And if I did, who would believe me if I spoke? Would my rape be real?"

I relate so is it possible for me to do as Kleinman and to even ride the current wave of public disclosure? Do I envy the freedom of those voicing traumas who come out and explore dark times with unknown eyes and voices? Not that my story is worse, just don't feel grounded, I come from a time when whatever happens we brought upon ourselves and if girls/women are in the wrong place or dress provocatively and get raped, it's their fault, etc. Who is to blame? My first monster happened when I was a child, and because the perpetrator was an upstanding professional, it was said I made it up. That set my life pattern so how can I wash my memories in words?

I have written about my darkness and shared in private; someday I might put it out there for anyone to read.

When Virginia Wolf committed suicide as recorded on Virginia Woolf's Suicide letter to Leonard Woolf, YouTube  Depression and mental illness were not treated as are today, still, as per statistics, "suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the US' and can be higher. "Stigma surrounding suicide leads to underreporting, and data collection methods critical to suicide prevention need to be improved." Learn how you can become an advocate. Looked at the current statistics and found that rape and sexual aggression in the USA are on the rise. Most victims are 12-34, and this happens every 98 seconds! Comment on: The great American novel is nothing without marketing

I can attest that this article is right, not just from my very recent experience but also from many who share their woes in writing groups and online. Beware grasshopper, even if you publish via a known publisher you do all the marketing. Some authors I trust told me that for the small of amount of books the first book of my series, The Sylph's Tale, sold they are amazed at the comments on Amazon, only one is by an honest author who read the book. Don't rely on family nor friends; they will not be your fans. Social media is the king of sales.

At 87, Deer Isle author reflects on publishing and his latest novel | Island Ad-Vantages | Penobscot Bay Press: With a view of Eggemoggin Reach stretching out to the horizon and winter chickadees flitting to and from a bird feeder, 87-year-old author Paul Newlin traces the cover of his latest book, The Adventures of Jack Armstron: The Not-Quite All-American Boy, with one finger. He describes himself as a writer of realism but said the “one thing I think is the hallmark of my writing is the humor in it.”

Do Adam and Eve Fit into the Evolutionary Story?

“It is obvious that modern humans did not interbreed with hominins living over 500,000 years ago. It is also clear that there was no single 'Adam' and 'Eve' but rather groups of 'Adams and Eves' living side by side and wandering together in our world.”
